An article recently published by us presented an in-depth discussion on the raging debate over the planned use of airport body scanners, which leave passengers virtually naked when going through security (Next Up… The Booby Bomber).

Now, the Pope himself has commented in on the issue:

At a meeting in the Vatican at the weekend, the pope made an authoritative – if entirely unexpected – incursion into the raging debate over the planned use of airport body scanners. He told an audience from the aerospace industry that, notwithstanding the threat from terrorism, “the primary asset to be safeguarded and treasured is the person, in his or her integrity”. (Read more at The Guardian.)

It is remarkable that the Pope has taken issue with the planned use of airport body scanners, especially given that he probably does not need to deal with any of the hassles regular passengers face when lining up to go through security at airports!
