Favourite Places: Via del Governo Vecchio
Via del Governo Vecchio is just another picturesque and cobbled ancient alley in the heart of Rome – or is it?
As the surprisingly unpretentious main artery of the district aroung Piazza Navona, Via del Governo Vecchio has retained its evocative atmosphere.
This narrow and bustling street is lined not only with art galleries and handicraft shops, but also with eccentric boutiques offering exclusive creations by Rome-based designers, vintage clothing, shoes, jewellery, and many other less categorisable items. A very different essence of sophistication than what can generally be found on the famous Via Condotti, which “stacks most of the best-known Italian designers into a 100-m stretch of real estate” (Time Magazine).
Its many small sidestreets tempt visitors and Romans alike to discover what is around the corner, and this is one of the last areas of Rome where many of us regulars get lost, all the time.
